Hub2 enlists Boston residents to engage pressing issues facing their communities by re-imagining them through technology. Computerized virtual worlds like Second Life offer powerful new tools for these communities to re-imagine civic spaces and civic life. Hub2 teaches participants to use these tools to engage their communities in that re-imagining process: gathering ideas, deliberating over differences, and constructing a common vision.

Hub2 begins as a pilot class at Emerson College open to all Boston residents but particularly targeting civic leaders and youth workers. Participants in this first phase help redesign the course into a broader program for more city communities, especially youth. One outcome of this redesign would be a summer program in which Boston youth research and design compelling public spaces where teens can hang out safely.
